Greek Regional Action Center (Gr-RAC)

In the context of “2016 - International Year of Global Understanding”, the Greek Regional Action Center –Gr-RAC is established in the Dept. of Geography and Regional Planning , School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. For this purpose, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Prof. Marinos Kavouras (mkav@survey.ntua.gr), Dean of School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, and Prof. Benno Werlen (benno.werlen@uni-jena.de), Executive Director of the International Year of Global Understanding.

Scientific Responsible of the Greek Regional Action Center is Anastasia Stratigea, Assoc. Prof. NTUA (stratige@central.ntua.gr), supported by research and teaching staff of the Dept. of Geography and Regional Planning.

In alignment with the general directions of the IYGU initiative, the Greek Regional Action Center aims at joining efforts and initiating actions for reaching IYGU goal and objectives in Greece by effectively transmitting IYGU key messages at the local, regional and national level. Towards this end, it will promote cooperation with a range of institutions of both the public and the private sector (Universities, Ministries, Public Institutions, Private Institutions, NGOs, Active Citizens’ Groups, etc.) for diffusing information on good practices and increasing awareness of citizens and institutions on environmentally- and socially-responsible behaviour.

Activities will mainly focus on “linking the global and the local” and concentrate on increasing understanding on:

  • The impacts of everyday actions on global climate change.
  • The lifestyles and their role in everyday decisions of people.
